Competition

Each Month NCPP has print competition.

1. PPA Style Print Competition

a. Judging 07/08

1) The Print Chair shall appoint five people to serve as judges and two to serve as alternate judges.

2) Prints are judged utilizing the twelve elements of a merit image: impact, creativity, style, composition, print presentation, color harmony, center of interest, lighting, subject matter, technique, storytelling and technical excellence/print quality.

3) The PPA numeric point system is used for scoring. The first round of judging will be for an Above Average rating (equivalent to a Blue Ribbon – 70 to 79 points). The second round of judging will be for Deserving of Merit (equivalent to Gold Ribbon – 80 to 100 points). At the end of the competition, the three highest scores will determine Best of Show, 2nd place and 3rd place. Should there be a tie for Best of Show, all qualified judges shall determine the Best of Show by thumbs up/Thumbs down majority vote.

4) No discussion is allowed during the judging except according to the challenge rules.

5) Any judge may challenge a score given a particular print, at which time he/she may present a short argument to challenge the score higher or lower. Each judge has a chance to respond to the challenge, and the challenging judge may speak once more to respond to the comments made. Then the print is re-scored.

6) The Print Chair may recall a print for review, and may act as a fifth judge when required.
