  • featured speaker, Judy Herrmann

This joint meeting with ASMP (the American Society of Media Photographers) and PPGBA (the Professional Photographers of the Greater Bay Area) full of opportunities and fun is FREE!

The 90 minute presentation, “EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED” by Judy Herman will begin at 8 PM.Judy-Herrmann-PORT-photocredit-Mike-Starke

Judy Herrmann, a former president of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) and winner of the International Photographic Council’s 2008 Leadership Award from the United Nations, is a partner and founder of the Herrmann + Starke studio, specializing in digital still life and lifestyle photography for advertising and editorial clients.

An Olympus Visionary since 2000, Herrmann lectures extensively about digital photography and sound business practices. She offers expert consultations and including how to turn a passion for photography into a profession. Herrmann developed an introduction to photography business practices program for the Olympus Meet the Pros lecture series and she often travels to ASMP chapters to present “I Need to Jumpstart My Business,” a seminar that helps photographers strategize on how to take their careers where they want to go.

Her program will speak to how to be a professional photographer in a day when everyone has a camera.  Judy’s program will point out how your career of photography is no longer selling photography and how  PHOTOGRAPHY’S FUNCTION HAS CHANGED. You are not selling photography anymore. Judy will cover how ads and markets have evolved.  Her information will show you the value proposition has changed.  “Quality is not an absolute measure.”

If you’re wondering where photography will be in 20–30 years like other industries of past and future such as Apple, then you shouldn’t pass up this opportunity to come and hear Judy share her insights of what she has learned from sitting among the leaders, movers and shakers in our photographic industry.

Our speaker this month, Steve Kurtz, from Santa Cruz, California will share his insights taken from shooting over 1500 weddings and 5000 portraits in his career. Steve’s photography has been featured in many publications including Martha Stewart Weddings, The New York Times, TV Guide, The San Jose Business Journal and Monterey Life Magazine. Beyond Shoot and Burn” will show how Steve has built his product line, so that he can maximize his sales from each wedding or portrait client and their families. In today’s competitive wedding and portrait photography market it is important to set yourself apart from the masses of photographers. In Steve’s view creating custom one of a kind products helps to separate you from the competition as well as increase you sales with each client.

Believe it or not, there are more compelling reasons to blog than just SEO (although that’s a pretty good one)! I’ll walk you through my blogging journey (the good AND bad) to help show you how to make your blog stronger and more profitable (yes, good blogging can help your bottom line). From idea generation to execution, I’ll give you tools and tricks to make blogging as pain free as possible.

My blog continues to be a source of inspiration for parents nationwide and has created lasting journalism connections. Additionally, in the coming year, I’ll be compiling many of my blog posts for a book. It’s true. Blogging is definitely good for more than just SEO!

Award winning family photographer, Jennifer Chaney, has had her photography on CBS Good Morning America, People.com, as well as published internationally on several occasions. winata_headshot_milou_loresNCPP Proudly Presents May 9th, 2013 – Caroline Winata

Branding + Authenticity

Caroline will be sharing her creative process and how photographers can tap in to their true authentic self for creative inspiration and picking a branding to match your style and personality.

Artist Caroline Winata flows through life like her lusciously modern clientele.
Wishing to life a mix-and-match of bold, fresh and dreamy-romantic concepts, she captures dreams for clients living their happily ever after’s.
The doors to her northern California studio open to her world where, along with namesake and best puppy friend Milou, you might find Caroline obsessing over design, gorgeous, randomly-discovered light, finding happiness in obscure moments, and traveling the world fashionably and fabulously.
“Olin” (as her friends call her) also loves chunky cocktail rings, dog-friendly beaches, and vibing with friends, especially over sumptuous sashimi. And cupcakes. Never forget the cupcakes.
Caroline appears in dozens of special, happy places, like Martha Stewart, Bride’s Magazine, The Knot, Style me Pretty, Green Wedding Shoes, and PhotoPro Magazine. She was also named one of Rangefinder Magazine’s Top 30 Rising Stars in 2012.
Milou + Olin = was, is, and always will be. In love with photography, and art, and design, and shoes, and life since she was very small, she is at her happiest with her inspiration Milou. For her romance-addicted clients seeking an edge, she always will be. Love always is.
When not obsessed with her photography and all things beautiful, Caroline is also working on her woman-centric non-profit, HelloXOXO.

Honored to be one of Rangefinder Magazine’s Top 30 Rising Stars of Wedding Photography.

NCPP Proudly Presents Sept. 13th 2012 Vijay Rakhra

Want to offer more products and services rather than just prints and albums? San Francisco Bay Area photographer Vijay Rakhra has found a way to double his bookings and has seen increased studio sales by offering cinematic services in addition to stills.

Vijay Rakhra is a Photographer and Filmmaker in the San Francisco Bay Area. His studio, which offers both Wedding Documentary Photography and Cinema, is sought after for their work at Indian weddings throughout California. Vijay will share his experience with Indian weddings and shooting both photo and video as a single team. Newer technologies now allow for the convergence of photo and video.

While he’ll discuss some DSLR shooting techniques he’ll focus mostly on how to add video to your list of services to help you gain an edge in today’s market. It’s not as hard as some people think to offer some video. Differentiate yourself from other photographers who don’t take the leap.
